National Hunt – 2019/20 Ones to Watch

Elixir De Nutz (Glyn’s 1st Pick)Elixir De Nutz trained by Colin Tizzard

    • Originally with Philip Hobbs (Only 2 runs)
    • Moved to Colin Tizzard (Oct 2018)
    • 1st run 2nd to Thomas Darby who was 2nd in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
    • Won his next 3 races….
    • Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle (2m 87y – Nov 2018)
    • Ebf ‘national Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (2m 1f – Dec 2018)
    • Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle (1m 7f – Jan 2019)

The 5 year old Gelding was all set for a real crack at the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle until being found lame on the monday night before, we’re expecting him to bounce back  after the summer off & definately one of our Ones to Watch

Klassical Dream (Sean’s 1st Pick)Willie Mullins Trained Klassical Dream

  • Form in France for Mlle I Gallorini PU-3-2-4-PU
  • Moved to Willie Mullins (Dec 2018)
  • Won a 2m (Good to Yielding) at Leopardstown on debut for Mullins (Feb 2019)
  • Followed that success winning a Grade 1 at Leopardstown beating Aramon
  • Up next was the impressive Supreme Novices’ Hurdle win (Mar 2019)
  • He then confirmed his ability winning another useful Grade 1 at Punchestown (Apr 2019)

On a perticually miserable day weatherwise back in March 2019, Money Rider was at The Cheltenham Festival once again for “Champions Days” to see Klassical Dream win the “tasty” affair impressively, against the likes of Fakir D’oudairies, Angels Breath, Al Dancer, & Mister Fisher ect.

Envoi Allen (Neil’s 1st Pick)Gordon Elliott trained Envoi Allen

  • Originally with Colin Bowe (1 Irish PTP – Ballinaboola, won by 10 Lengths)
  • Move to Gordon Elliott (Dec 2018)
  • He then won his first 3 NHF races for Elliott at…
  • Fairyhouse (2m – Dec 2018)
  • Navan (2m – Dec 2018)
  • Leopardstown (2m – Feb 2018)
  •  Won the Cheltenham NHF Champion Bumper (G1) edging out the Mullins trained Blue Sari

It’s early doors for Envoi Allen but the 5 year old Gelding can’t do much more that win the 5 races hes had so far, that alone should get him in our “ones to Watch”.  Owners Cheveley Park Stud have invested heavily in a number of promising young recruits recently with the likes of Envoi Allen, Beyondthestorm, Malone Road, Pragmatic, ect

Paisley Park (Jamie & Mark’s 1st Pick)Emma Lavelle wonderful Paisley Park

  • Trained by Emma Levelle
  • Won his last 5 races
  • Won the JLT Hurdle (The Long Walk) (Dec 2018)
  • Followed that success winning the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham (Jan 2019)
  • Then it was time to scoop The Sun Stayer Hurdle at Cheltenham  (Mar 2019)
  • Hopefully he will break Big Bucks record of winning the stayers hurdle some day

He won all his races last year each time showing how well he stays, comimg from mid division each time and regular jockey Aidan Coleman is 5 from 5 with him. The stayers division is weak once again & we’re all hoping he will take a step forward again. Its easy to see why they wanted him in their Ones to Watch

Emitom (Glyn’s 2nd Pick)Warren Greatrex's New Kid on the block Emitom

    • Trained by Warren Greatrex
    • He’s won 5 out of 6 so far
    • 3 wins & 1 place under Gavin Sheehan
    • Beat useful Lisnagar Oscar in a Maiden Hurdle at Ffos Las (2m 4f – Nov 2018)
    • Then won by 5L at our local track Lingfield (2m – Jan 2019)
    • Up next beating Interconnected, Who sold for £620,000 (2m 4f – Mar 2019)
    • Then he was 2nd to Champ trained by Henderson at Aintree (3m 1f – Apr 2019)

It’s still early days for Emitom & despite being favourite 3 times & 2nd favourite once he cant do much more than beat whats infront of him. On his last start he bumped into JP McManus’s owned Champ finishing 2nd making a mistake 3 out which didnt help, but Champ has won 6 of 9 & finished 2nd in the other 3 so no shame there.

Delta Work (Sean’s 2nd Pick)Model of consistency Delta Work

  • Trained by Gordon Elliot
  • Model of consistency
  • Has finished the places 10times! out the last 12
  • Won the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle (2m 7f – Mar 2018)
  • Won 4 out of six since (largely campaigned in Ireland)
  • He then beat the useful Le Richebourg at Fairyhouse  who had won his last 2 & won 2 since (2m 4f -Dec 2018)

As stated above he’s the Model of consistency for Gordon Elliot, under 9 ride for Davy Russell he’s won 5 & placed 4 times, although they have prefered to campaigned over in Ireland, He’s won once at Chelteham & finished 3rd in the 2019 RSA, So we won’t be surprised to see another bold run at the Cheltenham Festival in 2020 (if thats the plan)

Pentland Hills (Neil’s 2nd Pick)From Flats to Jumps Pentland Hills

    • Originally trained by Chris Wall
    • Started his career on the Flat
    • Move to Nicky Henderson (Sept/Oct 2018)
    • Won on his Debut over the timber
    • He won his Maiden Hurdle at Plumpton (1m 8f – Feb 2019)
    • Then he won the JCB Triumph Hurdle (2m 1f – Mar 2019)
    • Capping of his debut the season winning the Doom Bar Juvenile Hurdle (2m 1f – Apr 2019)

After an inconsistent start to his Flats career, winning just 2 from 11 (Twice under James Doyle’s stewardship) he made a great start to his Jumps career winning a maiden hurdle (Class 4) by 14L. Then upped in class he won the JCB Triumph Hurdle (Class 1) at the 2019 Festival beating the likes of Quel Destin & Adjali where we sadly lost top prospect Sir Erec. He capped a fantasic debut season winning by edging out another top prospect Fakir D’oudairies owned my J P McManus at Aintree (Class 1).

Thomas Darby (Jamie’s 2nd Pick)Olly Murphy newcruit Thomas Darby

  • Trained by Olly Murphy
  • Another top Prospect, Debut season was over Hurdles
  • Won on his NHF debut at Huntingdon (1m 7f – May 2018)
  • Took well to the timber winning a Maiden Hurdle at Cheltenham (2m 87y – Oct 2018)
  • He followed that with a decent 2nd at Ascot (1m 7f – Nov 2018)
  • Ending his season finishing 2nd in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle to Sean’s pick Klassical Dream

Another top prospect here in our “Ones to Watch”! He’s had five National Hunt races & won 2 & placed in the others. Lossing by just a head to Didtheyleaveuoutto at Ascot & finishing 3rd behind Mister Fisher & Rouge Vif in a 2m race at Kempton. However he got his revenge on Mister Fisher by finishing 2nd a head of him under Richard Johnson in the Cheltenham Festivals Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Santini (Mark’s 2nd Pick)Santini's back! looking in fine fettle

    • Trained by Nicky Henderson
    • Made his debut winning at Newbury (2m 4f – Dec 2017)
    • Finished 3rd in the Cheltenham Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (2m 7f – Mar 2018)
    • Up in trip he took the Doom Bar Sefton Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree (3m 2f – Apr 2018)
    • Then he took a Ladbrokes Novices’ Chase at Kempton (2m 7f – Dec 2019)
    • He finished his season with a 2nd in Cheltenham RSA Novices’ Chase (3m 80y – Mar 2019)

Rated by many I think its fair to say he’s had a couple of “False Dawns” & was probably in peoples “Ones to Watch” last year. However he has beaten Tom George trained Black Op at Chelteham & he was game opposition for Paul Nicholls Topofthegame & La Bague Au Roi trained by Warren Greatrex in Kempton’s 32Red Kauto Star Novices’ Chase,  MRR’ Neil has illuded to in our past Youtube video’s that he felt “Nico pushed the button a bit to late” in that race.
