That Time of Year
So here we are again the period between the few weeks after the festival and a few before the Grand National and were talking about the fav Tiger Roll and i didn’t think it would have been possible but i am more impressed with him now than i was this time last year.
Last years Grand national winner didn’t exactly start the season how i would have hoped finishing 4th of 7 at the track he so loves but to carry top weight on your 1st run of the season up the Cheltenham hill it was always going to be just a leg stretch exercise, which he came out of it in full health. His second outing was a more eyebrow raiser when he was entered in a 2m 5f hurdle race at Navan in which he was as big as 40/1 in places before the of.
Most people including us at Money rider assumed it was one final prep run before heading to the Cheltenam for the Cross country event at the festival, as it turned out Tiger roll had other plans and strolled passed the field to win by 4 lengths which in fair was eased up and could have been more. So Is he a hurdler or a chaser? was the plan still the cross country for Elliott?
The answer…..the cross country was still the aim and he headed to the festival not just off the back of embarrassing bookies but in full health. Now regardless of the the quality of the horse the cross country course is not for the faint hearted 32 fences over 3 miles is tough going…… or so we thought, not only did he not miss a beat over the fences he ran the field in to submission and after finishing 22 mammoth lengths looked liked he could go round again.
On to the National
This years Grand national looks as though it could be another belter with some top horses going in to it off the back of some brilliant efforts them selves, Vintage clouds and Lake view lad both stayed on well to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively at the festival behind Beware the bear.
Anibale fly is another who ran a fantastic race in finishing 2nd in the gold cup to Mullins who won it for the first time with Al boum photo, Talking of Mullins after his 2nd last year with pleasant company he bids to go one better with Rathvinden who has only had the one run this year in which he won a 6 runner event at fairyhouse but word is he seems to be in treat health and connections are confident, Now as great as all these horses are in our opinion if the Tiger gets a clear run round he will become the shortest price favourite to have won and reclaim his crown.
It may be my biased opinion and my huge love for the little horse with the biggest heart but it would be such a great sight to see him jump the last full of running and Davy just give him a squeeze to send him for the line with the liverpudlian crowd cheering him on and complete what is known in football i guess as the double double!Follow us on social media or get in touch
